I just started on my Christmas 2013 posts and I am already taking a break. You see, I recently celebrated a birthday and I had such a great time on my special day that I wanted to share the highlights with you all.
Eliot’s Eats presents: What Does a Foodie Girl Want for Her Birthday?
To start my day, The Hubs presented me with my birthday present. He picked the perfect present. No, it wasn’t jewelry or candy; it was an apple tree.
My Arkansas Black Apple tree.
We bought some Arkansas Black Apples a couple of years ago and I fell in love with them. (Check out my Arkansas Black Apple Pie here.) I had wanted a tree since then. Luckily, he read that the Honeycrisp and Gala apple trees that we currently have will work as pollinators for the Arkansas Black.
He taped an apple to it in case I couldn’t identify my gift. 
He is such a comedian!
Now that I had my present, he asked what I wanted to do for the rest of the day.
I had a list.
- Attend the Winter Market (which moved from the summer Farmers Market location and will open every other weekend for the winter.)
- Attend the Garden Deva open studio. (I love her work and we have two pieces in our garden.)
- Attend the 2nd annual Eat Street Food Truck Festival.
How convenient that these events occurred on my birthday.
Many artists, artisans, and other vendors were at the Garden Deva event.
I love this building.
How cool is this? I want a studio like this.
We bought some cool leftover sheets of metal that we want to turn into trellises.
I also bought a cool healing hand (a small one).

Then, we were off to the Blue Dome District for the food truck festival.
Tulsa’s own Blue Dome.
Last year we attended the inaugural Eat Street food truck festival. It was a beautiful day to attend the second one.

We have been dying to try Lone Wolf’s Banh Mi sandwiches and Kimchi fries but at every festival they have attended, the line has been redunkulous! We were here early this time and scored a pork Banh Mi and some of those illusive Kimchi fries.

We purposely did not eat breakfast to gorge ourselves here.
We took a little time out of eating to watch the entertainment. This was a great people-watching extravaganza!

Then there was panda-hat-man who first had to be told to put a shirt on and then had to be told not to sit on the stage when the band was playing….After being escorted off the stage, he flipped off the kind policeman behind his back.
Panda hat man…there are characters at every festival.
Then, it was time to eat again.
What to choose from next?
We went with the jerked chicken tacos from Mr. Nice Guys.
These were delicious, too!
Next came some brisket frito pies from Wicked Brisket Chili.
I didn’t take a picture of the food from this truck because we were standing at this point and I couldn’t get a great pic.
But, I did take a pic of their cool flag. The brisket was pretty tasty, too.
Having eaten our fill for a while, we sat and watched some tunes.

Then came the food truck judges…
Some food bloggers, a mayoral candidate, the Tulsa World food critic, some foodie kids, and Chef Remi
Seriously, it took so long to judge all the food that half the judges skeedaddled (past their bedtime?). We didn’t stay for the results either.
I had to try a dog from Dog House. The Hubs was stuffed at this point, but by-golly, it was my birthday. I was eating my fill.
This delight was The Mercury Dog…cream cheese, raspberry jam, and jalapeno relish. Don’t judge. It was too good to describe adequately.
As we rolled our way out of the festival, we decided to get something sweet. We stood in line for 30 minutes at Lick Your Lips—the mini-donut trailer.
The had the coolest machine that formed the donuts, fried them, and flipped them. I had the “Fall in Love” minis with whipped cream and pumpkin sauce. I ate them all. The Hubs had the “S’mores” which he said would have benefited from a bit of whipped cream, too.
We waddled home and collapsed. It was a great day.
I just had to add…
The Blue Dome district is in the shadow of the adult superstore. We did not venture in here.
We had a great time! There was also a pub run going on downtown. We did not participate but it was interesting watching as well!
There is always exciting stuff going on in Tulsa!
